Inclusion Policy

Aims:

  • We aim to ensure all children feel welcome, respected, and valued as a unique individual, irrespective of ethnicity, attainment, age, disability, gender or background.
  • We promote a positive and supportive environment where children can participate fully, safely and achieve their potential.
  • We aspire to give all children every opportunity to achieve the highest of standards.
  • We will strive to meet the needs of all children who attend our clubs through making reasonable adjustments and seeking to ensure that we meet all statutory requirements related to matters of inclusion.
  • We will only restrict or delay entry for a child once we have conducted a full risk assessment, considered and assessed all reasonable adjustments and drawn the conclusion that the risk cannot be safely managed.

Activities:

  • We offer a wide range of activities which meet the specific needs of individuals and groups of children. We meet these needs through:
    • Setting suitable learning challenges.
    • Allowing children to work at their own pace.
    • Responding to children’s diverse learning needs.
    • Overcoming potential barriers to learning or participation.
  • Reasonable steps are taken to ensure that children are not placed at any kind of disadvantage during any activity. Staff may modify teaching and learning expectations as appropriate for children with disabilities and/or additional needs.

Staff:

  • Our staff are familiar with the equal opportunities legislation covering race, gender and disability which is outlined in our Equal Opportunities policy.
  • Our staff aim to ensure that all children:
    • Feel safe and secure in the environment.
    • Feel that their contributions are valued.
    • Appreciate and value the differences they see in others.
    • Take responsibility for their own actions.
    • Participate fully.
  • Staff have received specific SEND training.

Children with SEND:

  • We request comprehensive details about a child’s disabilities and/or special educational needs upon registration and will discuss any requirements directly with the parents/carers and other stakeholders.
  • We will assess each registration thoroughly to check that we can safely meet the specific needs of the child and discuss accordingly with parents/carers and stakeholders.
  • We are committed to meeting the needs of these children and will take all reasonable steps and make reasonable adjustments, whilst keeping all children and adults safe.
  • We are not able to offer 1-2-1 support as we only have 1 class leader per club.
    • If a child requires 1-2-1 support for extra-curricular activities in order to keep them and others safe and access the activity, parents/carers/stakeholders are welcome to provide their own support worker / family member, subject to the necessary Enhanced DBS and Safer Recruitment checks and insurance requirements.
  • If the specific needs of the child cannot be met with reasonable adjustments, we will offer alternative class formats to parents/carers and stakeholders such as online classes or pre-recorded videos.
  • We cannot make adjustments that are unreasonable, would render the club financially unviable or that would compromise the health and safety of other children, adults or the child themselves.
  • When a club is school-based, we will meet with the SENCO at the school and, where we have parental permission to, review the child’s action plan/care plan /pupil profile should they have one.
  • When a club is school-based, we are reliant on the school to provide a space and environment that is accessible and suitable for all children attending.
  • We cannot assist with toileting or other intimate care requirements.

Abuse:

  • We have a zero-tolerance policy for racism, verbal or physical abuse towards any child or adult.
  • Such incidents will be reported following our reporting system and the involved party will no longer be welcome in our clubs.
  • No refund will be offered should a child be excluded for reasons of racism, verbal or physical abuse towards any child or adult.

Legal:

Under the Equality Act 2010, we acknowledge we must:

  • Not discriminate against any child.
  • Make reasonable adjustments to avoid putting them at a substantial disadvantage.

Under the SEND Code of Practice 2015, we acknowledge we must:

  • Ensure provision is safe and practical.
  • Make reasonable adjustments (para 6.9), based on a thorough risk assessment.

Under Health and Safety law and KCSE guidance, we have a duty to:

  • Assess and manage risks to children and adults.
  • Refuse provision, where inclusion poses a serious, unmanageable risk, despite reasonable efforts to mitigate it.

What Our Customers Say
  • "It is a fantastic opportunity which helps build confidence and gives an early interest in languages and the world around them."

    Parent of Joe age 5

  • "I’m really pleased how well my child is learning a language at nursery. She does all of her numbers at home & tells us what they are."

    Parent of Natalie age 3

  • Parent of Gracie age 2

  • "Language skills in early development comes naturally and easily, children are more capable of pronouncing unfamiliar sounds and absorb new grammar. For this reason this is why we feel that our children benefit from the Spanish sessions with Helen. It also contributes to them socially and boosts the confidence of some of the more quieter children."

    Lucinda Rumble, Nursery Manager

  • “The programme is such an intuitive and interactive way for the children to learn another language. Our pupils are learning so quickly!”
